Cwm Camlais (Sardis Chapel)

Cwm Camlais 4 mail
The chapel in the valley!  Settings don’t get much more beautiful than this and the chapel itself is absolutely gorgeous- straight out of “Jane Austin”.  With just a little imagination you can see Mr Darcy riding up and tying his horse up outside!

There is no village in the valley.  Farms and cottages are dotted around the chapel and there is a stong community spirit here.  The chapel is part of the Union of Welsh Independents and services, which are conducted in English,  are normally held on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month at 4.30pm.

After the service is over you are very likely to meet Bob the Sheepdog as you leave who will have come down to wait for his master from the neighbouring farm!

DIRECTIONS
The easiest way is to take the A470 from Brecon towards Merthyr Tydfill. Come through Libanus and take the right turn to Defynnog (A4215). After a couple of miles you will come through a marked cross roads (keep on) and in a few hundred yards the road bends to the left. In the middle of the bend is a right turn, sp. CWM CAMLAIS and you should take this road. Follow it (DO NOT TURN OFF) and it will drop you down, through Blae Camlais Fawr and drop you down again on the far side of the farmyard. In about a mile you’ll come to the chapel on your left.

Alternaively, take the A40 from Brecon towards Sennybridge. Turn left along the road signposted “Cwm Camlais” and then follow the telegraph wires! Yes, I know that sounds daft but there are some turnings off this road but if you always take the road which has the telephone wires running along it you’ll be right! The chapel will then be on your left-hand side in about 10 minutes.
